Matcha and Your Morning Routine

Why swapping your morning coffee for matcha might be the small change that makes your day feel different.

Mornings set the tone. What you put in your body first thing — and how you do it — shapes the rest of the day more than most people realize.

For a lot of people, coffee is automatic. You barely think about it. The machine goes on, you scroll your phone, and suddenly you're caffeinated and slightly anxious. Matcha asks for just a little more intention, and that's kind of the point.

The Ritual Part Matters

When you make matcha properly, you slow down for two or three minutes. You sift the powder. You heat the water to the right temperature. You whisk. It's not complicated, but it's deliberate — and that small act of doing something carefully at the start of your day has a way of carrying over.

The Energy Is Different

Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that works alongside caffeine to produce a calmer, more sustained focus. You get the alertness without the spike and crash. Most people describe it as feeling clear-headed rather than wired.

A Simple Way to Start

You don't need a full ceremony. Just:

  1. Heat your water to around 75°C

  2. Sift 1 tsp of matcha into your cup

  3. Whisk with a small amount of water first until smooth

  4. Top with more water or warm milk

  5. Sit down and drink it without your phone

That last part is optional. But worth trying.
